The specialty training for prosthodontics includes instructive and clinical preparation in the basic health science, the anatomy of head and neck, biomedical and biomaterial sciences, implantation surgery and many other important sections in dentistry. This broad and extensive training, enable prosthodontists to treat any complex cases, congenital disorders, full mouth reintegration and various prostheses constructions.
“Maxillofacial Prosthodontics” is a part of Prosthodontics. It can consider as a sub-specialty or super specialty of this division. This division of dentistry mainly treats patients, who have defects in the maxillofacial (head and neck/ upper jaw and face) region. Defects in these regions are usually caused by cancer surgery, birth defects, trauma etc. Maxillofacial prosthodontists are prosthodontists first. They are attaining a fellowship training exclusively for one year in Maxillofacial prosthetics to get specialize as a Maxillofacial Prosthodontist. Maxillofacial Prosthodontists are particularly specialized in oral surgical and prosthodontic treatments.
